How to Get to the Harry Potter Studios in London

Atmospheric photo of the Hogwarts dining hall at the Harry Potter film studios in London. The picture shows part of a set table with some round glass tankards with bronze pig heads as lids. There's a gold coloured Christmas cracker on each plate and some snowmen dolls with fake snow on the table. In the background you can vaguely discern part of a Christmas tree but it's out of focus.

Flying by broomstick obviously would be the most suitable mode of transport to get to Harry Potter World. But unless you have some unique wizarding powers, let’s look at the Muggle transport options. Assuming you’re travelling from London, here’s a rather simple and very straightforward answer to your question about how to get to the Harry Potter Studios in London.

How to get to the Harry Potter Studios in London

In this article I’m sharing two easy peasy ways for you to travel to the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio Tour. Either by public transport from Central London or a dedicated coach where you can travel in comfort and style to your Harry Potter attraction in London!

What is the cheapest way to get to Harry Potter World London?

The fastest and by far the cheapest way to visit the Harry Potter studios in London is by train. All you need to do is take the West Midlands Train from London Euston to Watford Junction. The train journey takes only 14 minutes and goes direct.

You can buy your train tickets in advance on Trainline.

From Watford Junction you can take a special Harry Potter shuttle bus that takes you directly to the Harry Potter Studios in style.

The bus journey takes only 15 minutes and it’s included in your Studio Tour entry ticket.

How to get to Euston Station

Euston is a well-connected station serviced by national trainlines, the London Overground train and Tube lines. The easiest way to get here is to take either the Victoria Line and Northern Line underground trains.

You can take either of these Tube lines to get from Kings Cross to Euston station. The journey takes less than 10 minutes. But it’s just as easy to walk from Kings Cross / St Pancras to London Euston. To walk is only 15 minutes. It’s not the prettiest or most quiet route to be honest, but it’s fast and saves you the Tube fare. (Yay, more dosh to spend on souvenirs at the Harry Potter studio!)

Can I use Oyster Card to Watford Junction?

Yes, you can use your Oyster card or Travel Card to travel from London Euston to the Harry Potter studios. Watford Junction is located in Zone 9 so make sure your travel card covers this area. Once in Watford Junction, just show your entry ticket to the studios for that day to driver and you’re good to go!

If your travelcard only covers zone 1-6, it is possible to purchase a so-called Boundary fare to cover the fare for zones 7-9. However, this is easier said than done as there’s much confusion about where and from whom you can buy these special fares, even with staff. So, perhaps the best stress-free option to get to Watford Junction by train from London Euston is to purchase a train ticket.

Harry Potter Studio tour tickets including transfer

It’s fairly easy, cheap and fast to travel from Central London to Harry Potter World. But if you want to get there completely hassle-free, you could opt for the comfortable and convenient transfer by coach.

All you need to do is arrive at the departure point at Victoria station on time to board your dedicated coach. The bus journey takes 1.5-2 hours (depending on traffic). It’s a great opportunity to see more of London and surrounding area.

And after having spent four magical hours at the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio, the coach will be waiting for you to drive you back to London. After such a fun-packed day out I think you’ll appreciate the chance to take a nap or at least rest your feet for a moment.

It’s a great chance to let all the wonderful impressions of the day sink in. And I can assure you that you’ll be needing some time for this after having wandered around Hogwarts, following into the footsteps of our favourite wizards!

Ever since its premiere in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been a box office success. You can see this two-part play at the fabulous Palace Theatre in the heart of London’s vibrant entertainment district also known as Theatre Land.

Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, the play is set 19 years after the previous book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry is now working at the Ministry of Magic where he’s the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He’s happily married to Ginny and when their son Albus Severus Potter starts attending Hogwarts, this leads to all sorts of unexpected and dark adventures …

This critically acclaimed theatre play is a must for die-hard Harry Potter fans!

There’s no doubt that you get a fantastic behind the scenes experience at the Harry Potter Studios. But what if I told you that you can actually see some real-life Harry Potter film locations in London for free?

You’d be surprised at how many scenes have been filmed at locations that exist in the real world. I visit a fair amount of them during my Dutch-language Harry Potter walking tours. But since most of my readers are English, I’ve collected my top 5 favourite Harry Potter locations especially for you. Do you recognise all of them?

  1. Watford Junction seems to be outside of the Zone 1-6; so Oyster card for these zones may not work?

    1. Hi Rohit, many thanks for pointing this out to me! Since I first wrote the post the zones have changed and Watford Junction is now located in zone 9. If you’re travelcard only covers zone 1-6, it is apparently possible to purchase a so-called boundary fare that covers the fare between zone 6 and 9, but looking up information for you online, it seems quite complicated as there’s much confusion about where you can buy it, even amongst staff. It seems you can only purchase this special fare from stations in zone 6 which means you would have to get off the train at a station in zone 6 and then board another train to continue to Watford Junction. To me the easiest and most stress-free option seems to buy a train ticket at London Euston or online in advance. I did this myself when I went to the studios too! Hope this helps!
